Recent speculation regarding the Nintendo Switch 2 suggest that we may soon discover the color options available for the new console. However, the leaked color scheme raises some concerns regarding its aesthetic appeal.
Recently, information surfaced from an informer known as ‘NextHandheld’, who has been sharing images claimed to reveal a finalized version of the Nintendo Switch 2 retail unit on social media. When questioned about the potential inclusion of blue and orange Joy-Con controllers, they shared a vague image that seems to back this theory.
Within the leaked image, a long-anticipated ‘C’ button can be observed, representing an enigmatic new input that has appeared in earlier leaks. The exact function of this button remains uncertain, but there are speculations that it may relate to updated online features or new hardware aspects in the redesigned Joy-Con controllers.
The image also depicts the bottom of the home button, hinting that it pertains to the right Joy-Con. Notably, the colors presented are unlike any seen before on the Nintendo Switch. While the Joy-Con appears to be predominantly black, a striking orange strip can be spotted to the left of the controller.
It remains ambiguous whether this element is an integral part of the Joy-Con, relates to its attachment mechanism, or is simply a separate accessory. One could reasonably assume that the other Joy-Con will display an opposite color scheme, presumably featuring blue in place of the orange highlighted in the leak.
Personally, this color combination does not appeal to me, as the orange resembles something more suitable for industrial tools than a gaming device. Compared to the beloved Neon Red/Neon Blue arrangement of the original Nintendo Switch, this new aesthetic seems like a step down, in my view.
Fortunately, Nintendo typically offers various color options with its consoles, so if this leak holds any truth, there may be a more visually pleasing alternative available upon release.
