The governing body has refreshed its rules with Regulation Set J, marking a significant update that will affect players who participate in the official competitive league. A key change is that previously unavailable types will now have the chance to compete under the new guidelines.
Under the updated rules, creatures from specified regional catalogs will be allowed to take part in battles, with selections as follows:
- Entries from the first catalog covering positions 1 through 400
- Entries from the second catalog covering positions 1 through 200
- Entries from the third catalog covering positions 1 through 243
The rules also specify that only up to two special entities from the eligible list can be selected, while another group, featuring well-known characters such as Mew, Mewtwo, Ho-oh, Lugia, Deoxys, Kyogre, Groudon, Jirachi, Koraidon, and Miraidon, remain off-limits.
The full details of Regulation Set J are available for review on the official competitive guidelines page. The revised rules will start with Ranked events in September 2025 and will be fully integrated into Championship competitions by the end of November 2025.
