Five years have passed since the announcement of the Star Trek: Discovery spin-off movie, which will star Michelle Yeoh. Now, the first trailer for Star Trek: Section 31 has finally been unveiled. During San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 27, the trailer debuted, and it features Beyoncé's 'Formation' as its soundtrack. The event was attended by stars Omari Hardwick, Sam Richardson, Kacey Rohl, and Michelle Yeoh, who joined virtually.
The trailer reveals Yeoh's character, Philippa Georgiou, who originally appeared in Discovery's pilot episode before returning in the show as a more sinister version from the Mirror Universe. In the spin-off, Georgiou joins a secret black ops division of Starfleet. As Rohl's character, Rachel Garrett, explains, their missions are essentially espionage to protect the United Federation of Planets and prevent any galactic mayhem. Georgiou slyly remarks on this "cute idea" with a menacing grin, while Hardwick's character expresses his reservations about her, noting her tyrannical past.
Directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi and scripted by Craig Sweeny, the movie is expected to be darker than previous Star Trek installments. The panel also disclosed that Kate's Miku Martineau portrays a younger version of Yeoh's character. Other notable cast members include Sven Ruygrok from One Piece, Robert Kazinsky from Pacific Rim, Humberly Gonzalez from Ginny & Georgia, and James Hiroyuki Liao from Barry.
The teaser trailer promises that Star Trek: Section 31 is "coming soon." While fans eagerly await its release, they can explore breakdowns of the most anticipated upcoming movies.
