WhatsApp, a leading communication application, is renowned for providing users with an array of options to express themselves. Despite Meta, the app's developers, focusing mainly on improving the app's functionality in recent years, one area seemed to be overlooked: text formatting. However, it appears that this oversight is finally being addressed, with WhatsApp reportedly working on new text formatting options and improved message editing support.

Back in 2016, WhatsApp took a significant step forward by introducing text formatting tools such as bold, italics, and strikethrough. These tools were designed to enable users to emphasize specific parts of their text, create subheadings, and even redact text when necessary. The monospace option was also added later that year, which is primarily used for formatting code snippets.

In 2017, a minor update was pushed out by the developers, consolidating all these formatting options into a floating text toolbar where they sit today. Unfortunately, since then, the development of these tools seems to have stalled, with little noticeable progress in comparison to rival platforms such as Telegram, Discord, and Slack.

The news that WhatsApp is finally turning its attention back to text formatting and editing tools is a welcome one for users. The ability to format text is a key feature in many communication apps, as it allows users to express themselves more clearly and effectively. It will be interesting to see what new features and improvements WhatsApp will bring to their text formatting and editing tools.

As one of the most popular communication apps in the world, the improvements to WhatsApp's text formatting and editing tools will undoubtedly be welcomed by many. While it's taken a while for the app to catch up to its rivals in this area, it's clear that the developers at Meta are committed to providing the best possible experience for their users.
