This article is meant to be a guide for people who are unfamiliar with Undertale, or who are just starting out the game. It is a game that can be considered both enjoyable and thought-provoking, but it is hard to get into because of the bullet-hell gameplay, which is infamous for its difficulty.
This guide is for anyone who is having trouble getting into Undertale, or anyone who is interested in it.
Tip 1: Refrain from taking another's life.
Come on, this should be the obvious one. To achieve the True Pacifist finale, refrain from eliminating any character, foe or otherwise. They'll still be there when you're trying to get the best ending.
Tip 2: Keep your HP high
You can't heal in battle, but you can heal after. Your HP will be reduced to 1 after a fight, but you can heal yourself after by going to the menu and healing.
Tip 3: Make sure you have a variety of items
I can't stress this enough. You never know when you will need an antidote. As a rule, I always have at least one of every item. This way I'm never stuck with the "You don't have any X" dialogue choice.
Tip 4: Don't be afraid to experiment
Undertale is all about experimenting with different characters, weapons, and battle strategies. There are even alternative ways to do the neutral (Neutral Route) and pacifist (Pacifist Route) route in the game and it is up to the players to find them all.
There are many optional and hidden areas that can only be accessed through obscure actions, and there are many solutions to puzzles. You should feel free to try anything, and if it turns out you made a mistake, try again.
Tip 5: Take note of what your enemy is doing
Sometimes the enemy will do something that will hint at their weakness. They may be preparing to attack you, heal themselves or call for help. If they're standing still for a long time, it's possible that they're waiting for you to approach.
The Bottom Line
I really loved this game, it was fun and kind of heartbreaking in some parts. The characters are really interesting and the music is great. The battle system is really fun and easy to play. I would highly recommend this game to anyone.
